To All Coleman County Property Owners

 

SCAM ALERT!

  

It has come to the attention of the Coleman County Appraisal District that there is a new scam. A property owner in Coleman County has been contacted via telephone with the number showing to be out of the Abilene area. The caller appears to be targeting property owners that have their current property values under protest. They are not properly identifying themselves and are calling to settle property protests. Probably for a fee.

Please be aware that our contracted appraisers and appraisal district staff identify themselves and explain why they are calling. They do not call to “settle protests”, especially for a fee. They do not offer to buy or sell your property. Our appraisers and appraisal district staff are calling to discuss your protest, get information about the protested property, and to give information about the notice of appraised value. The appraisers and appraisal district staff give the property owner a chance to explain their issues and a chance to send additional information in order to resolve the protest. If the property owner is satisfied with the information or the issue is resolved informally, the property owner will be instructed to send an email to withdraw/cancel the protest or sign a document agreeing to any changes made. Those are then forwarded to the appraisal district to be handled accordingly.

The appraisal district never charges fees for exemption applications, agricultural appraisal applications, services, protest settlements, etc. and we never offer to buy or sell your property.

VISIT TEXAS.GOV/PROPERTYTAXES TO FIND A LINK TO YOUR LOCAL PROPERTY TAX DATABASE ON WHICH YOU CAN EASILY ACCESS INFORMATION REGARDING YOUR PROPERTY TAXES, INCLUDING INFORMATION REGARDING THE AMOUNT OF TAXES THAT EACH ENTITY THAT TAXES YOUR PROPERTY WILL IMPOSE IF THE ENTITY ADOPTS ITS PROPOSED TAX RATE. YOUR LOCAL PROPERTY TAX DATABASE WILL BE UPDATED REGULARLY DURING AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER AS LOCAL ELECTED OFFICIALS PROPOSE AND ADOPT THE PROPERTY TAX RATES THAT WILL DETERMINE HOW MUCH YOU PAY IN PROPERTY TAXES.

Coleman CAD has an agreement with EZ-Net Pay to provide its customers with automated credit card and electronic check payment services.  EZ-Net Pay will charge you a convenience fee for this service, which you will be notified before you complete your payment.  Coleman CAD does not receive any portion of this convenience fee.
